Video: AOC Forces Pelosi's Hand on Congressional Stock Trading Ban
A lot of us have been asking for awhile which of AOC's family members specifically were threatened in order to turn her into the "Mama Bear" loving pol she is today. Her first major act as a newly elected Congressperson was to protest outside the Speaker's office in favor of the Green New deal, right alongside the Sunrise Movement. Nowadays she won't even give a straight answer about Pelosi's death grip on the House Leadership.
But AOC showed a little of her old fight this month, by forcing Pelosi to embrace the ban on stock trading by members of Congress that she had previously rejected. The way she went about it (by quietly preparing a "discharge petition" that would have forced the measure to the floor), is emblematic of the inside/outside game she's been trying to play of late, with limited results. While the outcome here is unlikely to fare any better than the Green New Deal, at least she's still willing to piss off Mama Bear on occasion by hitting her where she lives: her calls, her puts, and her stock options.
