In 1816, over the course of a rainy vacation in Geneva, 20-year-old Mary Shelly wrote what many consider to be the first science fiction novel. In it, brilliant young medical student Victor von Frankenstein creates a creature sown together from the body parts of the dead that eventually murders everyone he loves, before driving his creator to the ends of the earth in a doomed attempt at revenge. The story has been retold in countless films, most of which focus on the grotesque and the macabre elements, while ignoring the moral and philosophical questions that have made it such an enduring cultural myth. But those questions are so much a part of its legacy that to describe an arrogant creator playing with forces they scarcely understand, losing control of their creation, and then being destroyed by it, all you need to say is, “They created a Frankenstein monster,” and everyone will know exactly what you mean.
Wonderful writing, more please. I love this: “Much better to hunt down racism in the human heart, which, like the hunt for sin, can never really be concluded, and like the war on terror, can make its proselytizers a fuck ton of money.” Our local Whites for Racial Equity, emerging from university grants, rudely expelled me from their “whites only safe space” for challenging their vigorous support for Lesser Evil purveyors of endless racist wars. Love your black humor conversations on DD. I’m in a zip code crammed with Honorary Lifetime Members of the TruBlu Society of Pragmatic Incrementalists(TM) and victims of Toxic Conflict Avoidance Syndrome, and y’all keep me sane.
An exceptional essay. Humour really does seem to be the best medicine for the woke mindset. Andrew Doyle (a.k.a. Titania McGrath) definitely seems to think so. Apparently, if one wants to really infuriate them, it's best to call them the 'woke establishment'. They like to think of themselves as anti-establishment rebels, so it really hurts!
It's worth noting that it's the children of the 10% who champion woke causes. Back in 2014, when Nick Hanauer's incendiary TED talk 'Beware, fellow plutocrats, the pitchforks are coming' and was promptly banned, moves were already foot to capitalise on what had previously been an obscure and fringe collection of somewhat discredited academic fields, synthesising woke capitalism- the children of the 10%, particularly the 1%, were already being frantically bundled off to indoctrination summer camps, so that they could instantly transform their very real socio-economic privilege into currency within the new ideology by becoming part of the leadership class acting as 'allies'- rather like a drug cartel trading its soon to be obsolescent bank notes into new currency.
The woke mindset is like an exclusive club which decides it needs to modernise. Elites of every race are invited to join them in the VIP lounge, but the 10% have to content themselves with regular clubgoing, whilst the 90% of every race are left outside in the cold, just as they always have been.
A beautiful essay. Great writing, powerful critique. We are indeed living per Gramsci in the time of monsters, not all of whom are of our own making. Witness the decaying political classes across the West and their support of their coddled and cossetted monster rampaging through Gaza.
Brilliant writing. I’d like to get you on my podcast. Over 100,000 subscribers. Just got a slot on local terrestrial radio as well. People need to hear this. Message me
Great essay, minus my old man eye rolling at wypipo. That can be put alongside "lean in" and a whole host of other ridiculous pieces of language deployed by an academic/marketing class too lazy to use language correctly, or too desperate to get noticed by using something 'different'. If it was in direct speech, mimicking someone's accent, I'd be alright with it. I mean not to offend. This is a clever bit of writing. :)
An excellent essay, and a great use of Shelley! Coincidentally, I just ran a piece on Mary Shelley at Stranger Worlds the previous week. It's the first part in November's 'A Brief History of Science Fiction', which is a political-philosophical exploration of contemporary mythology, all in readily digestible 3-minute reads.
Amazing work. Would Krempe (Victor's professor that ridicules Victor's experiments but doesn't do anything meaningful to stop him) be the post-duopoly left or the anti-SWJ right? The pd left is cheering on the monster now, the anti-swj right is throwing out all their values to help destroy the monster.
Excellent! PS the Ukrainian flag is blue and yellow, no white on it (even if the Banderites purport to be fighting for the aryan white race against the asian "moskals")

Best synopsis I’ve read yet of our current dilemma, well done!!
I just read this again. From concept to conclusion, it really is masterful.

Fantastic article!
Russell, as a fellow “Joo”, you nail the humor and the history together.
I watch you and Keaton on the regular. If not live, definitely the recording or the podcast.
Keep it going!
All the best,
John

Not as politically pointed as yours, alas, but it will be by the end of the month. 😂
Stay wonderful!
Outstanding, Russell.

Love this, as it is symbolic of the true nature of the beast that can possess us with promises of conquest through manipulation of humanity.
Brilliant painting of what’s really going on. Wish I’d written it.
Great!
