Sounds like a great episode! Figured I’d share some writing about the crackdown on student activism well beyond Columbia, and what it means for democracy in America, beyond the rights of student activists. https://shahidbuttar.substack.com/p/the-empire-strikes-back

Yes, it was a great episode, Shahid. Your article was a nice compliment. However, I would say that not only the Occupy Wall Street crack-down foreshadowed the current suppression of free speech and dissent today, but I would include the repression that occurred during the Viet Nam war protests, as well as that of the Free Speech Movement at UCB.

Thank you, and yes, absolutely agreed! The closing section of my article dives into the history of the movement for peace in Vietnam and the consistency across time of programs and policies enacted to suppress any grassroots challenge to militarism.

Oh, I did not see the last part of your article. For some reason, my view cut off after your section on Occupy Wall Street. I apologize for the over-sight.

Wonderful episode, with very effective videos showing the brutal crackdown of the students at the various universities. Of course, I also cracked up with your banter back and forth, imitating NYC police. Your improv skills are great!
